March 2019 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

We all belong and are part of what makes our school great!
If you come into Bedford you will notice our showcase with the many puzzle pieces going up on the wall. Each of our students and staff is making a puzzle piece to represent themselves to add to our display. Everyone of us is unique and important and together we make a beautifully diverse group.

For upcoming events, please see the calendar page on our school website.

(Don’t forget March break is next week: March 11-15!)

Thank you to all the parents who made donations through our milk and pizza orders online. This month $169 was donated! This makes is so much easier to provide food and milk for those students who cannot afford it.

Grade 6 Celebration

Each year we celebrate the “graduation” from Bedford. The date has been set this year for Wednesday June 26 at 1:00 at the school. Dress rehearsal is that morning so please plan accordingly for grade 6 students to be present all day. More details will come your way as the date approaches.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found will be displayed in the front hallway until Friday March 8, 2019. Anything that is not claimed will be donated during March Break.

We are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to collect the Lost and Found from the school, sort through to check for names and items in pockets, wash it and take it to a local charity for donation. We have had a very loyal parent doing it for years but unfortunately this year she has moved away and we are searching for a replacement. If you are interested, please contact the office.

Caribou Math Contest

Congratulations to our Grade 3-6 Mathletes who wrote the Caribou Math Contest on February 13th. In first place for the Grade 3/4 contest was Piers from Mme. Hillier/Ms. McKee’s Class. Kiran in Mme Harrison’s Grade 3 class placed second. Evan in Mrs. Bell/Mme Hillier’s Class placed 3rd. For the 5/6 contest, 1st place goes to Ava in Mlle. Young’s class. Also from Mlle Young’s class, Eden placed 2nd and Thurston placed third. Our next contest will be on April 4th.

Book Fair

There will be a book fair running in the library during the week of April 1st to April 8th. It will be open every day from 8:30 until 4:00 as well as before Lion King performances for those that would like to do some shopping. I would like to run a classroom wish list this time, for those that are interested in helping out their child’s classroom library. There will be a wish list for each teacher with titles they would like from the book fair posted in the library if you want to participate. Hope to see everyone during this time. Thank you!

Fundraising for NGOs

Mme. Quinn’s grade 5/6 class would like to thank all of the families and students who participated in our fundraising week. It was a great success. Together we raised $1018.50 to share between World Wildlife Fund and APOPO. Thank you very much for your generous donations and thank you to our grade 5/6 parents for all the help with the book and bake sale.

Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night is on Thursday, May 9th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This is the best night of the year for the kids! Games, food, fun, crazy jars and silent auction items mean that there is something for everyone. Family Fun Night funds raised go towards supporting many things at the school. This year’s wish list is: classroom donations, the snack bin /fruit tray program, Kiwanis registration, electives for juniors, Grade 6 graduation, student volunteer thank you event and technology updates for classrooms and more! Your support adds so much to the school and our children!

We are still in need of a few people who would like to help with the planning and organizing of Family Fun Night. This year that would mean working alongside the current organizer(s) so they can show you the ropes in their last year organizing. The key areas are set up & take down, food, and overall. If you are interested in helping out or simply want more information, please email
