May 2018 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

The week of May 7-11 is not only Education Week but also Children’s Mental Health Week. With one in five children and youth facing various mental health challenges, continued awareness is vital. Our fantastic performance of Seussical has brought to mind a couple great quotes that remind us of the importance of valuing each and every one.

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you.

A person’s a person, no matter how small.

In a school building with almost 500 people, where 450 of them are children, we prioritize the importance of valuing each person’s individuality and celebrating just what makes them unique. We remember that everyone deserves the same respect, no matter their size or age.

Donations

Thank you to all the parents who made donations through our milk and pizza orders online. This month $66 was donated!

We also greatly appreciate the donations at our Seussical performances. The $900 raised will assist in covering part of the cost of the production.

Jump Rope for Heart

Bedford’s Jump Rope for Heart event will be held on Wednesday May 16th. It has been moved up two days from the original date listed in the student planners to accommodate a switch for the Junior Track and Field Event. The whole school will be participating in the jump event together in their packs. Show your school spirit and wear red on the day of the jump event! We will be getting active while encouraging a healthy lifestyle. All money raised will support the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Pledge forms have gone home to each child. Funds can also be raised by visiting jumpropeforheart.ca. All pledge envelopes should be sent back to school on our jump day. If you do not plan to collect money you can send the pledge form back to school anytime. Each student who returns their pledge envelope before Friday May 18th will have their name entered in a draw for a basketball. You do not need to collect donations to be entered in the draw.

Kiwanis

Congratulations to Mme Glenn-Lynes’ and Mme Harrison’s grade 2 and 2/3 classes for placing first in both classes they entered at the Kiwanis Music Festival in April. They sang beautifully. Way to go, Bulldogs! If you missed their performances and would like to check them out, they are on Mme Harrison’s YouTube channel.

Dance Club

Bedford’s Dance team has been working hard creating and learning a dance they will be performing at the AMDSB Dance Showcase at Northwestern Secondary School on Wednesday, May 9. The show starts at 7:00pm. Students are to arrive at NWSS at 4:30pm.

Track and Field

Our annual Track and Field meet is fast approaching for all junior students. We have had to move the date from the one indicated in the planner and the event will be all set to go May 17 (raindate May 18). We will be bussing all students in grades 4, 5 and 6 to Stratford Central for this event as we do not have the facilities here at Bedford. The cost of the bus will be covered by funds raised through our pizza/milk sales. A letter and permission form is coming home with all junior students.
