Principal’s Message

Positive & Inclusive Learning Environments

As part of our Board’s goals to create positive and inclusive environments, we have been reconfiguring our library and learning commons spaces. In the next few weeks, we will have removed the fixed shelving units in the library and will have new shelves on castors that can help make the space in the library more flexible. This will be useful for things like graduation, the 50th Anniversary and any time we need room for events. We are working on comfortable seating to encourage a more welcoming environment in the library and to promote reading.

Principal Change Coming

As many of our school community is aware, I have been seeking an international education position to round out my career. I have accepted a position for September at a school in Brazil and will be taking a two year leave of absence to pursue this new role. I look forward to the opportunity and hope to bring back new learning to the Board when I return.

At the moment, my replacement has not been determined. I will announce my replacement when that information becomes available.

I have sincerely enjoyed my time at Central Perth. This is a wonderful community and I will miss it very much.

Mad Science will be offered again this year to students in grades 1-6. Again this year the program will be offered for 6 weeks during lunch breaks. More information to follow.

Graduation

Grade 8 Graduation will be Tuesday, June 26th, from 6 to 10 p.m.

50th Anniversary

Plans are well under way for CP’s 50th Anniversary. As a reminder, we are holding the 50th on June 10th from 1 to 5 p.m. alongside the Fun Fair. If you are interested in attending either function, you are most welcome! Remember to like and share our Facebook page.

We are still seeking volunteers to sit on various committees. If you want to be a part of this exciting event, please contact the school.

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 11 at 7 p.m. in the library. See you there!

PA Day

Friday, April 27th, 2018 is a Professional Activity Day for staff. There is no school for students.

EQAO Assessment

Our Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) Primary Division Assessment (Grade 3) of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics and the Junior Division Assessment (Grade 6) of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics will occur during the weeks of May 23rd to June 4th. This year we will run EQAO for six days writing one section per day. Our hope is that with only writing one section per day, students will fatigue less and achieve greater success. Please help us to give our grade 3 and 6 students the best chance possible to achieve success on the EQAO assessments by ensuring that your child gets plenty of sleep, a balanced breakfast & encouragement about his/her ability.
Your consideration in keeping these days free from medical appointments etc. for your children is greatly appreciated.

Character Education

This month, students will be discussing the character attribute honesty. Honesty is being trustworthy, sincere, loyal and truthful.
