Thank you to the many families who have volunteered to sell the chocolate mintie bars for us as our first playground fundraiser. We have 14 cases on the way which should be a profit of $1300 already! Some of the fundraising ideas that we have discussed at school council are continuing gift card sales, hosting a student walk-a-thon in June, Fresh From The Farm fundraiser in September and there is the possibility of having another chocolate and/or candle sale in the spring. We are sending home a letter today asking for your support as a school family. Thank you for your consideration.
We believe we have a final design for our structure that the students have approved. The total fundraising goal for the replacement swings and playground is $52,000. If you have ideas on how to help us with this project please feel free to contact us at the office or any member of school council.
The first set of report cards will be coming home Tuesday, February 19, 2019. This report card will reflect student achievement, and the development of learning skills and work habits from September to the end of January. Please read over your child’s report and discuss it with your child. Remember to have your child identify a goal for improvement. Please sign and return the bottom of pages 3 and 4 in the envelope provided. If you would like an interview with your child’s teacher, please call the school.
Winter weather can be very unpredictable. On most bus cancellation days we will endeavour to keep the school open for students. Unfortunately, sometimes circumstances change if the weather worsens and the number of staff able to come in is low and then we close the school to students. Please use the school messenger tool and choose “sign for text messages” to receive information in the most timely manner. The instruction sheet was sent home with the weekly update last Friday.

Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who supported our Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraiser. The orders will be delivered to the school on Wednesday, February 13th. The date has been changed from the 12th. I am unable to provide a pick up time until that morning, due to a change in how the transportation company is organizing deliveries. I will send out a email that morning as soon as I know. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Forest of Reading Program
In January, we started the annual Forest of Reading program. It is for students in the school who wish to participate.
The goal is to read at least 5 books in one category to be allowed to vote, along with students from all across Canada for their favourite book in that category. The categories and age groups are: Blue Spruce for Primary, Silver Birch for Junior and Red Maple for Intermediate. The Primary students will have the opportunity to hear all ten books in their category, as they are read to the whole class. The Forest of Reading books have been nominated and are written by Canadian authors.
This year we are also going to try “Forest Fridays”. Authors host a 45 minute visit through live streaming on the computer. It will be held in the library with the use of the main data projector, for those students or classes who wish to participate.
Finally, at the end of April there is a nationwide voting day and the librarian sets up a voting station similar to a Provincial or National election, with ballots for each of the categories. This gives the students a taste of our democratic system and by reading 5 or more books the students are introduced to many of our amazing Canadian authors!
March Break starts on Monday, March 11th until Friday, March 15th. Students will return to school on Monday, March 18th, 2019. Enjoy the holiday.
