Happy New Year and welcome to 2018. It’s always great to be back in school after a break. There is a true sense of renewal and eagerness as we continue down the road of continuous learning with your children. In all we do, we try to model enthusiasm and a love of learning for the students so that they too will approach learning opportunities with confidence and enthusiasm. We will continue to provide opportunities for all students to become engaged in their learning and to add to the vibrant spirit that is so prevalent at Elma. Please continue to reinforce in your children, the importance of putting forth a consistent, strong effort in everything they do at school and in being respectful with one another in their daily interactions. I am hopeful that you share our resolution as we continue to develop the partnership between home and school so that we can help every individual student reach his/her fullest potential.
Thank you to Mrs. Mettler, our primary staff, and all of the students who performed in our holiday concert. Many hours of hard work go into a concert such as this. We have many talented students and it was a wonderful opportunity to share their work. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Elma Toy Drive
Thanks to all our families who supported community efforts through our local food and toy drives. Your generosity is very much appreciated by staff and students.
Intermediate Student Fund Raising
Although year-end trips for intermediate students are several months off, many of these students are busy with fund raising endeavours to reduce out-of-pocket costs. Please support their efforts through the purchase of Domino’s Pizza cards and chocolate bars and almonds.
Grade 8 Parent Night – LDSS
LDSS will be hosting the annual Grade 8 Parents’ Night on Thursday, January 11 with a snow date of Tuesday, January 16. If you have a student who is potentially entering grade 9 next year, please plan to attend. The program starts at 6:30 with an introduction in the small gym. Starting at 6:45, the school will be open and teachers will be available in their department areas to show their programs and answer questions.
With winter’s arrival, we remind you of our process for cancelling buses in inclement weather. The safety of our students and staff is our main priority.
While we know there will be circumstances when buses are cancelled, we want to ensure you that we will do our very best to keep schools open. When buses are cancelled there is still meaningful work and learning occurring in our classrooms. When schools are open to students during inclement weather and buses are cancelled, student drop-off and pick-up times remain the regular entry and dismissal times. To see if a school bus is cancelled or delayed or whether your school is closed, please visit https://ourschoolbuses.ca/.

The Monkton Skating Club has programs available for all ages and abilities on Tuesday evenings. Free helmet and skates are available.
A reminder of the PA Day scheduled for Friday, February 2nd (no classes for students).
