January 2019 Newsletter

Welcome back!

After a balmy December I suppose we should have almost anticipated our January weather, but I believe that few of us really expected our first day back to be this cold and blowy.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Holiday Extravaganza Concert in December. It was a great show. A heaping grocery cart of food was donated to the food bank and the concert monetary donations, plus Exeter Hawks night candy cane sales, netted $861.80 dollars for Jessica’s House.

January is a time of renewal and refocus, and certainly our students are already back into learning mode which is delightful. Already a group of excited students have shared their love of reading with me while another debated the proper way to measure.

Several exciting events are planned for this month. Grades 1-3 are busily creating breakfast menus for Hansen’s ‘Raise a Food Lover Project’. January 18 (snow day January 25) Hansen’s will be serving the entire school breakfast using one of our student menus. The rescheduled Kindergarten trip to Miller’s farm will be in January and Grade 6 will be heading to the High School for half a day of Fun Tech
Looking forward to discovering what the rest of 2019 brings,

Me to We

School Council

School Council has many exciting things planned for EES in 2019! Stay tuned – we are busy planning these and can’t wait to share them with you!

Save your Hansen receipts! School Council continues to collect Hansen (Your Independent Grocer) grocery receipt tapes to generate funds for EES. For every $100,000 in receipts, School Council receives $250 in funds to help support EES. Receipt tapes can be deposited in the green bucket located near the exit of Hansen’s or handed in to the school office.

If you want to find out more about the role School Council plays at EES, join us at the next meeting on Monday January 14, 2019 at 6:30PM in the school library. We look forward to having anyone interested join us! Can’t make the meeting but still want to be informed? Information about School Council, including meeting minutes, can be found on the school website.

Cold Weather Notice

It is important to make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold and snowy weather. If the temperature or the temperature plus the wind-chill dips below – 25 degrees Celsius, we will keep the students inside. On other days, when it is close to that mark we will shorten recess. Once outside, we do our best to be sure the children are properly dressed and monitor the students for signs of discomfort. If necessary we will enter the school before the recess is over.

Thank you for ensuring your child is prepared for the cold weather. It makes our decisions much easier when the students have hats, mitts, and snow pants. We understand that there must be a balance between the students need for physical activity and protecting them from the cold.

Weather Delays and Cancellations

The Huron Perth Student Transportation Services is offering a number of options to ensure you are made aware of any school bus delays, cancellations and school closures during the school year. The posting of notifications continues on the Cancellations and Delays website.

Every school in the district has established its own Twitter account which can be followed through twitter.com or on the front page of each school’s website. Also, information will be shared via Facebook.
