Message from the Principal
February – We will be talking about Perseverance this month. We show this by demonstrating commitment and determination.
Report cards will be coming home this month. Staff has been busy working on their assessment and reporting. Reports will be coming home on February 19th. Please note that we would like the portion that parent signs to be returned as soon as possible. Please make sure you contact your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss the report card or would like to touch base about anything regarding your child and their success at school. We welcome and encourage continuous communication with your child’s teacher throughout the year, as we continue to believe the best support for your child is when we all work together. Thank you for all you do.
Silent Auction and Dance Night
On behalf of Hamlet Public School, we are reaching out to the community for silent auction items. We will be holding a school dance in late March (date to be announced) for the students of Hamlet Public school. There will also be a silent auction being incorporated into the fundraiser. All proceeds are going to support the Gordon Family, that have been faced with a lengthy unforeseen medical challenge for their daughter. Madi is a 4 year old JK student from Hamlet that has been diagnosed with enterovirus D68 (same virus known as the common cold and flu). She is currently being treated at Holland Bloorview Children’s Rehab Centre as they continue to work on her paralysis’. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. We will acknowledge all donors on the silent auctions forms.
A big thank you to Zehrs Stratford for surprising Hamlet as the selected school, with a presentation called “Raise a Food Lover” on Friday, January 18th. They shared with the students the importance of reading all labels/signs when making food purchases at the grocery store. They also provided each student with a healthy brown lunch snack. Be sure to ask your child about the presentation and what they learned! Thank you Zehrs Stratford!
Ms. Hughes, the Vice-Principal from Stratford Northwestern came and presented to the Grade 6s regarding their transition next year. Several students had many fantastic questions such as “what will we be called next year?; the Huskies or the RAMs”…answer “perhaps the HAMs?”. To stay informed on the Stratford renovations (and to provide input), please visit yourschools.ca (under the Stratford tab).
Front Driveway – Very Important Message – No One is allowed to park at the front of the school during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is imperative as we need room for the bus to drive through during these designate times. There is a sign that states this as well. We will be requiring you to move and we will enforce this with everyone as the bus lane must be kept clear at these times. Please assist us by mentioning to anyone who may be responsible for picking up or dropping off your children. We thank you for cooperation in advance!
We request that no toys, games or cell phones from home come to school as it increases the chance of it getting lost and/or ruined.
Please be aware of the following guidelines for Hamlet…
● Due to life threatening allergies, we ask that our families send lunches that are nut free. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
● In the nice weather, I know many of you walk with your child and the family pet. Unfortunately, we cannot allow dogs on our playground. With all of the noise and confusion on the school yard, we cannot take the chance of having a dog on the yard. This ensures the safety of the children and also protects your dog from an unfortunate incident. Thank you for leaving pets off the school grounds.
● Yard supervision begins at 8:55 a.m. and ends at 3:35 p.m. Children should not be dropped off before or picked up after these times.
● School Council is continuously fundraising for a new playground on the Grade 1-6 yard. If you would like to make a contribution, you can do so with schoolcashonline.
Message from School Council
February…the shortest yet longest month of the year! Let’s hope the weather is better this month and Wiarton Willy has good news for us! The School Council is trying to keep our minds busy and look forward to the warmer months ahead.
The playground committee has been busy visiting classrooms and polling students on their favourite equipment. This will help us determine what our new structure will look like. The kids have been extremely enthusiastic!
The Fun Fair committee will begin planning for this year’s annual event. It will be a little earlier this year so save the date for May 30, 2019. If you’d like to be part of the planning please reach out to Trish Robb at email@example.com.
