Parent/Guardian-Teacher Interviews
Simply put, parents are the best teachers and role models that a child has. As such, it’s vital that parents are actively involved with their child’s education.  There’s plenty of evidence that suggests positive communication between parents and teachers leads to a positive impact on the academic performance of a child.

As such, we strongly encourage all families to take the opportunity to book a time to meet with your child’s teacher(s) on the afternoon/evening of Thursday November 7 or the morning of Friday November 8 which is a professional activity day. (There is no school for students that day). Your child should have brought home a blue form for you to complete and return to school in order to book a time.  If not please contact the school or print off the attached form and return it to the school with your oldest child by Friday October 18th.

Please note the interview times will be sent home in the progress report of your oldest child on Monday November 4th.

School Advisory Council Information

Grilled Cheese Day-Friday October 25th
On Friday October 25th, Howick School Advisory Council has graciously offered to cook grilled cheese sandwiches for the entire school.  Each student will receive one sandwich during first nutrition break.  Please note we are using one of our ten special food days allocated per year for this and the sandwiches will be made with white bread and processed cheese slices.  Snack program will not be running that day and students should bring other items to supplement their lunches.

If you do not want your child to have a grilled cheese sandwich or they don’t like them please call the school to let us know.

In order to pull this generous idea off parent council members are looking for electric griddles to use to cook the sandwiches.  If you have one please contact the school so we might be able to borrow it on that Friday.  We are also looking for volunteers to help make the sandwiches.  Again call the school if you can help out in anyway.

Pumpkin Day-October 30th
We are very excited to be hosting our second annual pumpkin contest. On October 30th, we welcome you to bring in a pumpkin that fits into one of these 5 categories:

Traditional carved, Animal, Funny, Character and Open. Pumpkins will need to be dropped off on October 30th at the school gym by 9am (sorry, no pumpkins on the bus), and must be picked up anytime after 3pm, or by 9:00 am the following day.  We welcome individual and family entries. We can’t wait to see all the SPOOKTACULAR entries. Happy Creating, From Parent Council

Snack Program
Please note that on Friday October 25th and Thursday October 31st the snack program will not be running.  Parents are welcome to send healthy snacks with your child on the afternoon of October 31st to share with classmates (this is optional). We would ask that families do not send in any food that contains nuts as we have students who have severe allergies to these foods.  Thanks for your continued cooperation.

Black and Orange Day
On Wednesday October 31st students are welcome to wear black and orange clothing to celebrate if they wish.

Terry Fox Run
Our Terry Fox run at Howick Central P.S. was a huge success! Students and staff raised $1268.80 for the Terry Fox Foundation.  This year’s run resulted in our second highest amount fundraised at our school since 1998.  Thank you for helping to fund cancer research.

Farm Credit Food Drive
We are well on our way to meeting our goal of collecting over 700 cans of food.  The food drive will wrap up next Friday October 18th.  Remember if we reach 1000 items of food Mrs. Swart will receive a pie in the face!

Before and After School Program Survey
As part of our on-going commitment to make the school day as seamless as possible for our families, we ask parents/guardians to share their tentative childcare needs for September of the next school year (2020) by completing an online survey. Here is the link for the survey:

Families that are interested in Before and After school programs for their 4 to 12 year old children are asked to complete the survey by December 2, 2019.

We appreciate your assistance as we determine the feasibility of offering such programs.

Calling All Three Year Olds/Kindergarten Registration
Families can register online, then call the school to book an appointment for Monday, November 25, 2019 and make arrangements to pick up a registration package. Kindergarten registration for September 2020 is for children who are 3 years old (JK) and 4 years old (SK) by December 31, 2019. Please help spread the word in our community.
