December 2018 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

November came and it went but we had a great month! Thanks to everyone involved in preparing our Remembrance Day Service and thanks to our guests for attending. Our service was very well done!

I continue to reflect on my two months at Hullett Central PS, and one thing that really stands out to me is the care and concern that our staff has for our students. Hullett Central has a staff who truly value the importance of high quality education. All staff engage in professional learning in an effort to continuously improve their practice. Our students are very fortunate to have a staff like ours!

Also, we have a great school community. Our students and staff consistently demonstrate kindness and respect. A very accepting and positive vibe is felt in and around our school!

I’d like to wish everyone a very happy holiday and all the best in 2019! As always, should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to come and see me at the school, call me at 519-523-4201 or email me at .

Our Primary Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 12th. There will be a dress rehearsal at 12:30 p.m. for students, staff and available family members. The evening performance will take place at 7 p.m. We hope to see you there.

Identity-Based Data Collection

From December 3rd to December 7th, students and families from across the Avon Maitland District School Board will be participating in a new opportunity focused on the collection of Student Identity-Based Data. This project is part of a provincial pilot offered by the Ministry of Education’s Equity Secretariat. Its purpose is to enhance understanding of Ontario students in order to create positive learning environments where student achievement, well-being and equity are prioritized. A link to the survey will be sent to families from grades K-6, and students in grades 7 and 8 will complete the survey in class. Please contact the school if you would prefer a paper copy of the survey or if you have any questions.

Cyber Safety Tips

Some valuable cyber safety tips for all of us:

  1. Never leave your device unattended: Teach your children how valuable these devices are and to keep them close.
  2. Click with caution: When in doubt, do not click on the link.
  3. Passwords: Teach your kids to protect accounts with strong, unique passwords and not to share with friends.
  4. Be wary of using social media: There are many risks that come with social accounts. Stalking and bullying are two very real dangers.
  5. Be a good online citizen: Practice good online etiquette and to never say mean things.
