February 2018 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

I’m really not sure where January went! We were certainly faced with some variable weather. A reminder to families that if buses are cancelled and the school is open, you are welcome to drop off your child(ren). Drop off time is 8:45 a.m. and pick up is 3:10 p.m.

Your child’s term one report card will go home on Tuesday, February 19th. Please spend some time reviewing the report, and also celebrating successes and identifying areas of need. It is always recommended that parents assist their children with goal setting on the last page of the report. Should you have any questions or concerns about the report card please contact your child’s teacher.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to come and see me at the school, call me at 519-523-4201 or email me at matthew.robinson@ed.amdsb.ca.

Meat Calendar Fundraiser

Our School Advisory Committee held another very successful Meat Calendar Fundraiser during the month of January. A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes, the organizers and everyone who supported the school. Your generosity is very much appreciated! Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase new Chromebooks and iPads for the school. Stay tuned for updates!

Volleyball

The Junior boys and girls volleyball teams attended a volleyball tournament at GDCI on January 21st. The boy were able to get 1st place, beating out GPS, Clinton, and Brookside. Congratulations on your Championship! The girls did their best in the scheduled games of the day. Although the girls were beaten by their opponents, they continued to put forth a strong effort. Good job girls!

Bell Let’s Talk

On Wednesday, January 30th, Hullett Central joined in the conversation about mental health and wellness. Students added positive messages to our Let’s Talk displays. Hullett cares!

Hullett Hawks Leadership Council

The Hawks Leadership council is very excited about all the stuff planned for February. We are happy to announce a Valentines Day Dance on February 14th, along with a spirit day planned. We ask students to wear pink and red on Valentine’s Day!

French News

Three Hullett students will be going to St. Donat, Quebec for a 5 day trip, February 20-24. Congratulations to these three students on being chosen for this exciting opportunity and have a great time!

Food Day Confusion

Recent snow days have played havoc with our food days. Thankfully our food providers have been flexible with us in terms of rescheduling.

The Pizza Day scheduled for Friday, January 25th was rescheduled for Wednesday, January 30th and the children received their pizza then.

The Sub Day scheduled for Tuesday, January 29th has been cancelled altogether. Refunds have been issued for Subs ordered on that day and you should see this appear in your bank account or School Wallet within a few days.

Milk refunds have also been issued to anyone who ordered milk on Jan. 28, 29 and 31. (Milk ordered for January 25th for Pizza Day was served on January 30)

We will resume our normal food day schedule with our regular Sub Day on Tuesday, February 5th.

Me-to-We

We raised $509 from the candy grams for the Tanner Steffler Foundation. We will present the cheque on a date to be determined. Thanks Hullett for the generous support!

Speeches/Stories

We are happy to continue with our tradition of public speaking/storytelling at Hullett. Individual classrooms will be hearing students’ speeches or storytelling during the beginning weeks of February. Our school competition is scheduled for Thursday, February 28 (with a snow date of March 1). The winner from each division will attend the Legion Branch competition scheduled for March 9th in Kincardine.

Lunch Monitor Training

Snow days have prevented us from from holding our lunch monitor training. Stay tuned for a rescheduled date.
