May 2019 Newsletter
Here we are in May! We have lots happening at Hullett Central this month. I’d like to thank the entire school community for supporting the annual Hullett Central Auction and Fun Night. Thank you to the the School Council for organizing and thanks to everyone for the overwhelming support!
This month, our junior/intermediate Spring Concert will take place. The evening performance will happen on Wednesday, May 8th from 7 – 9 p.m. There will also be a dress rehearsal on Monday, May 6th at 11:30 a.m. We hope to see you at the concert!
As we move closer to the end of the school year, I would like to remind all families to continue to assist with keeping students focussed. Meaningful work will continue to be provided at school until the end of June, and it is the expectation that all tasks and activities are completed to the best of each child’s ability. Thank you for your help with this!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to come and see me at the school, call me at 519-523-4201 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hullett Auction Fundraiser
Once again, our annual Auction and Fun Night was a huge success. We anticipate we made over $16,000 and this money will be used to purchase new stage curtains and to pay for guest speakers in our classrooms. Thanks again to our School Council and to everyone who supported Hullett Central Public School!
Dress Code Reminder
As outside temperatures begin to rise, students are reminded to mindful of their attire. The following guidelines remain in effect for HCPS …
– Clothing should not, through inappropriate graphics or comments, suggest/support profanity, violence, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or harassment.
– Clothing exposing cleavage, midriff, back, or buttocks is not acceptable, whether standing or sitting. Shoulder straps should be at least two fingers in width. Short shorts or short skirts are not allowed.
– Hats are removed upon entering the school.
– Students are to have both outdoor and indoor footwear appropriate for the season and activity, whether indoor, or out, as used for PE classes.
– Lost and found clothing will be placed on display throughout the year. Students will be able to peruse these articles. It is helpful to put names on clothing, especially of younger students.
Green’s Meats Fundraiser
For anyone who purchased Green’s Meats, orders can be picked up on Thursday, May 2nd from 2:30-5:00 p.m. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the grade eight trip to Camp Celtic, and your support is much appreciated!
Our grades 4-8 classes have been busy preparing for their spring concert entitled, “A Little Bit of Country, A Little Bit of Rock ‘n Roll”. The concert presentation will take place on the evening of Wednesday, May 8th at 7 p.m. in our gymnasium. We hope to see you there!
The Robotics Team had a fantastic day at D&D Automation in Stratford, on April 25th, where they competed in the Awesome Battle of the Bots and brought home the Best Team Spirit Award. Congratulations to Brady Graf, Jacob Josling and Brody Nesbitt for a great team effort.
Blue Spruce – Forest of Reading
Hullett Central joined approximately 270,000 students across Canada as they voted for their favourite Blue Spruce book in the Forest of Reading, Canada’s largest recreational reading program. They chose the book ‘Barnaby Never Forgets’ as their Blue Spruce winner.
On Thursday, May 2nd, our grades 4 – 8 students will be participating in Introduction to Lacrosse Workshops. Instruction will be provided by a coach from North Perth Outlaws Lacrosse.
Me to We
Me to We is hosting a Walk for Water on May 31 during the last block of the day (weather permitting). There will be fun activities along the walk for the children to participate in. HCPS student body will learn about the struggles that children in developing countries endure without having access to clean water, including girls not having the opportunity to go to school because they have to make several trips to a nearby river to get water for their families. Hopefully all students will support the day by bringing in a toonie. For those who would like to go the extra mile, pledge forms will be available at the office. Every $25 raised ensures clean water for one person for life in a developing country. Please help support our first ever event for this cause.
Mike Masse, aka Mindful Mike, will be joining us at Hullett on Wednesday, May 15th and Friday, May 24th. Mindful Mike will be working with each of our classes, teaching them mindfulness techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. More information can be found at Mindful Mike’s website.
Music Presentation at CHSS
On Thursday, May 2nd, our grades 6, 7 and 8 classes will be attending a performance by a band from The University of Western Ontario. Thank you, CHSS, for the invite!
As in previous years, grade three and six students will write the Education, Quality and Accountability (EQAO) Test the weeks of May 21-24 and May 27-31. The test measures student aptitude in reading, writing and mathematics. Specific details about test scheduling will be sent home as we move closer to the date. If possible, we ask that families avoid scheduling appointments, excursions, etc. during this time. If you have any questions, please contact the school.
The Senior Girls and Boys basketball team represented Hullett at the April 17th tournament at CHSS. Our students worked hard practicing and played their best. Thanks to coaches Caldwell and White, well done players and thanks to the parents and families who came to cheer them on!
Mental Health and Well-Being Awareness Week
Hullett Central will recognize Mental Health and Well-Being Week May 13-17. We have made this decision in part because Mindful Mike will begin working with our students during this time. Although our staff recognizes and promotes positive mental health every day, we will make an effort to share some of the things we do with others. During this week, there will be an assembly that focuses on various aspects of this very important topic.
Hawks Leadership Council
Stay tuned for our afternoon Hawk’s Pep Rally and Staff vs. Student Volleyball Games on Friday, May 17th. Please come dressed in black and gold!
