Principal’s Message

December is here already! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone in the Mornington School Community.

Please note that our annual Christmas Concert and reception will be on December 19th (weather date is December 20th). Please join us at the school at 12:00 p.m. for the concert and enjoy a Christmas refreshment afterwards.

Please remember that School Council’s chocolate mint smoothie Christmas fundraiser is going on. Please have your orders to the school by December 8th. Mint smoothies will also be available to buy at the Christmas shopping event at the school December 18 – 20th.

Please read the newsletter over carefully, as there are always many activities at school during the month of December.

Kindergarten Registration Update

Thank you to all the parents that came out to our Kindergarten Registration on November 14th. We had a wonderful turnout! There is still time to sign up your children for next September if you were not able to make it on our registration day by calling the school at 519-595-8995.

School Council News

Mint Smoothie Chocolates are once again for sale for $2 each during second nutrition break December 18th – 20th. They will also be for sale the day of the Christmas concert or you may order using the green order sheet that was sent home in November. They make a great gift or stocking stuffer. Thanks for supporting this school fundraiser!

Toy & Food Drive

We will be collecting new toys and canned food items from December 4th through December 19th. Any new toys or canned food items would be greatly appreciated.
Please remember to check the date on your donated food label to make sure it has not expired. All donations will be picked up by the Loaves and Fishes food bank in time for Christmas.

Candy Cane Grams

The Grade 7/8 class is selling candy cane grams from December 4th – 15th. Each candy cane will come with a little card where you can write a festive note to your family or friends. Each candy cane gram is 25 cents. The candy cane grams will be delivered on December 18th.

Christmas Concert

It’s that time again for the Christmas concert at Mornington Central! This year, each class will be performing a Christmas song or play. The students will be presenting on Tuesday, December 19th at 12:00 pm in the gym (snow date December 20th). We have been working hard on our presentations in class. If you have any Christmas décor, props, etc., please send them to school with your child. We will send them back when the concert is finished. I hope you can join us to celebrate the holiday season. After the Christmas Concert you are welcome to stay and join us for some Christmas refreshments and social time.

Christmas Shopping At Mornington

Mornington Central School is hoping to raise some money in a fun way that will benefit everyone in the school. Christmas is a time of giving and as we all know giving is much more rewarding than receiving. With that in mind, you may participate in two ways:

1) Send things into the school that can be sold to others.
2) Shop at the school for gifts that can be given to your friends or to your family members.
Shopping will be December 18th – 20th. On Decemeber 19th we will have Christmas Shopping available from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., just before the Christmas Concert.

Being Prepared for the Winter Weather

With the colder weather upon us, please make sure your child(ren) are prepared with a warm hat, mitts, snow boots, a winter coat and snow pants. If your child is in need of any winter clothing or have forgotten theirs at home, please call the school office. We have extra hats, mitts, snow pants and winter coats for them to borrow.

Before & After School Survey

Families interested in Before or After School Childcare programs, should complete the on-line survey no later than Friday, December 15th. The survey is available on the AMDSB website.

Should you require a paper copy, please contact the school.

We appreciate your assistance, as we determine the feasibility of offering such programs.

Ready for Winter

How do I know when buses are cancelled and/or my school is closed?

Huron Perth Student Transportation Services makes it easy to get your school bus delay and cancellation information. Already you can follow the announcements by going to our website ourschoolbuses.ca or by following your school’s twitter account. You don’t need to have a twitter account to get this information, as the latest Tweet appears on the main page of your school’s website.

You can also monitor local radio stations during inclement weather for the latest announcements on cancellations or delays.

Message to Parents from the Foundation for Education

We know that some of you like to give gifts of appreciation at this time of year.
Perhaps you’re wondering what gift to give to that special teacher, custodian, bus driver, principal or secretary?

The Foundation for Education has a unique answer for you!

With a ‘Gift to Honour’ you can choose to make a donation in someone’s honour and 100% of that donation will be designated for a project within your own school.
Here is the process:

1. Fill out the Gift to Honour & Tax Receipt Information.
This can be found at your school or online at http://foundationforeducation.ca/donate/. If you would like a paper copy, please contact the school.
2. Attach a cheque for your chosen amount. The cheque must be made payable to the Foundation For Education who will issue a charitable tax receipt for the full
amount.
3. Return this Form and cheque to your school to be forwarded to the Foundation.
4. Pick up a Gift to Honour card at the school and fill out for the child to hand to the person receiving the card.
