December 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to December 2018

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone in the Mornington School Community.

School to Home Communication

At Mornington, we always believe that it is important to keep parents and families informed about events and things going on at school. If you have questions we are never further than a phone call away and our door is always open when you stop by. We also try to keep everyone up to date with our monthly newsletters and notes sent home with students. Perhaps less known is our school Twitter account @MorningtonPS which, if you are not on Twitter, you can view by visiting our website where you will see the Twitter posts along the right-hand side of our homepage. Just recently we have introduced yet another way for you to follow what’s happening at our school. We have launched a Mornington Central Public School Facebook Page which you can find on Facebook, or if you are not a Facebook user, you can visit by going to the school website.

We will do our best to keep this information up to date and we hope you enjoy the pictures, information and anecdotes but rest assured we will still use all our traditional means of communication as well. We won’t leave anyone out! If you have any questions about this or anything else at school, please feel free to contact me at school (519) 595-8995 or by email at David.Bennett@ed.amdsb.ca. You can even message the School Facebook Page if you like.

Bad Weather Communications, Bus Cancellations or other Emergencies

Bad Weather Communications, bus cancellations or other emergencies will continue to be announced in the same ways they always have been and you can also follow:

Please remember that all other tradition means for getting these messages our, such as by radio stations, CJCS 1240 AM, CKNX101.7 FM and CHYM-FM 96.7 FM will still be used.

Toy & Food Drive

We will be collecting new toys and canned food items from December 4th through December 19th. Any new toys or canned food items would be greatly appreciated.

Please remember to check the date on your donated food label to make sure it has not expired. All donations will be picked up by the Loaves and Fishes food bank in time for Christmas.

Candy Cane Grams

The Grade 7/8 class is selling candy cane grams from December 10th – 14th. Each candy cane will come with a little card where you can write a festive note to your family or friends. Each candy cane gram is 25 cents. The candy cane grams will be delivered the week of December 17th.

Christmas Concert

It’s that time again for the Christmas concert at Mornington Central! This year, each class will be performing a Christmas song or play. The students will be presenting on Tuesday, December 18th at 12:00 p.m. in the gym (snow date December 19th). We have been working hard on our presentations in class. If you have any Christmas décor, props, etc., please send them to school with your child. We will send them back when the concert is finished. I hope you can join us to celebrate the holiday season.

Christmas Shopping At Mornington

Mornington Central School is hoping to raise some money in a fun way that will benefit everyone in the school. Christmas is a time of giving and as we all know giving is much more rewarding than receiving. With that in mind, you may participate in two ways:

  1. Send things into the school that can be sold to others.
  2. Shop at the school for gifts that can be given to your friends or to your family members.

Shopping will be December 17th – 19th. On December 18th we will have Christmas Shopping available from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., just before the Christmas Concert.

Snack Trolley

New this year on Friday, Dec 14th. Ms. Visser and her elves will be visiting all classes with a snack trolly and students will be able to buy festive snacks and treats. Prices will range from $0.50 to $2.00.

Before & After School Program Survey

Families interested in Before or After School Childcare programs should complete the on-line survey no later than Friday, December 14th. The survey is available on the AMDSB website and if you require a paper copy, please contact the school. Thank you

Christmas wishes from the staff of Mornington Central

In closing, the staff at Mornington Central you like to thank all parents and extended families for your support throughout the year. We are truly fortunate here at Mornington to have the privilege of teaching your children and helping them learn and grow into capable and responsible children and young adults. We do not do this alone, of course, because it is clear that our students also benefit greatly from strong supportive families and a vibrant caring community. We really do thank you for sending us the best kids in the world with whom to work. We would like to wish all of you a safe and happy Christmas holiday. Our last day of school before the holidays is December 21 and our first day back in the New Year is Monday, January 7.

Merry Christmas from the Staff at Mornington Central!
