Dear North Easthope Families:
The month of June has arrived and all of the fun and excitement along with it. NEH PS is proud to plan and host many fun events in the month of June. Thanks to all of the staff, parents and community members who put so much time and effort into planning these events. For a full list of events, please see the calendar below or visit our school website calendar.
All families are invited to attend our end of year school BBQ which will be hosted on Thursday, June 7 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thanks to our Parent Engagement Fund, as well as your fundraising efforts this year, we are thrilled to offer this BBQ free for all family members. We are looking forward to good food, great company and an Indigenous Hoop Dance presentation that will amaze you. It will be a great family outing! Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets. We look forward to seeing you there. A big thank you to Julie M and all of the volunteers who are making this event possible for everyone!
We enjoyed welcoming and thanking our volunteers on Friday, May 19 at our Volunteer Tea. Volunteers are an important part of our school and community and we appreciate all that you do to make the world a better place.
We are looking forward to another fun Math Play Day and a trip to the Lions Pool in Stratford for all students at the end of the month as well as other class outings.
We will send home a brief newsletter at the end of June with information about September 2018 and events that have happened in June. Until then I hope everyone is enjoying our summer weather that has arrived.
As a school we have completed our Spring Emergency Drills. Thanks to students and staff for your attention to detail and efficient responses to our drills.
In the month of June we will also be saying Good-Bye to a very special person. Mrs. Linda Nador, our secretary, is retiring. All of us will miss her very much. We are so thankful for everything that Mrs. Nador has contributed to the life of NEH Public School throughout the years. We wish her a long and healthy retirement. We also invite Mrs. Nador back to visit anytime she is driving by.

Welcome Baby Robertson
We are happy to announce that Mrs. Roberston and her husband welcomed a baby boy into their family on May 18th. Pierce James Robertson weighed 8 lbs 11 oz and is 21 inches long. Mother and baby are both doing well. Congratulations!
The final meeting of the School Council will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at 6:30pm in the library. Thank you to all of our School Council members as well as interested parents who regularly attend our meetings, but more importantly help to support our students and staff throughout the school year. A huge thank you for all that you do. Mark your calendar for Thursday, September 13 at 6:30 pm in the school library for our first School Advisory Council meeting of the 2018-19 school year. We will hold elections that night.
End of Year BBQ
This is just a reminder to all NEH families that our End of Year BBQ will be hosted on Thursday, June 7 from 5:00-7:00 pm. If you have not already returned your family order form, we would ask that you please do that as soon as possible so our organizers can ensure we have enough food for all. There will also be an Indigenous Hoop Dance show for all to enjoy and take part in!
Healthy Schools Committee – Gold Status
Our Healthy Schools Committee has been very busy this year promoting physical activity at NEH PS. They have helped to plan and lead several of our school wide events this year including Carnaval and Jump Rope for Heart. They have planted lettuce in one of our gardens and have been busy learning new recess games. We recently learned that we have been awarded gold level certification through the OPHEA Healthy Schools program. There are 327 registered Healthy Schools, representing 50 school boards across the province for OPHEA’s Healthy Schools Certification 2017/18 school year! We also won the May twitter contest and our committee will be featured on the OPHEA blog/website in June. Our school also won a $50 gift card from Real Canadian Superstore to buy resources for the committee and school. Congratulations to Mlle. Miller and this amazing group of students.
Jump Rope for Heart
Thanks to everyone who donated and supported our recent Jump Rope for Heart event. Our Healthy Schools Committee leaders and Mlle. Miller planned a fantastic event for our students to enjoy. Our Gr 7 and 8 leaders were very much appreciated for their efforts as well. We raised $4549.53 to support the efforts of the Heart and Stroke Foundation in promoting a heart healthy community. We also loved that “Heart Hero” also known as Mlle. Miller was able to join us for the event. Our school will receive new play resources to continue to promote heart healthy activities for our students.
Ontario Student Nutrition Program/ Fresh Friday
Thanks so much to our incredible Fresh Friday volunteers! Thanks to Julie M for organizing and leading this program for our students. We had a dedicated group of 30 parents and 3 grandparents help prep or serve 14,264 fresh & healthy snacks this year! This program is a success because of your helping hands and we would not be able to offer the variety of fresh foods and classroom snacks without our amazing parents & grandparents! Our students enjoyed a diverse menu this year including: corn on the cob, grilled cheese sandwiches, a salad bar, hard boiled eggs, lots of fresh fruits & veggies and fruit smoothies to name just a few! Special thanks to Gary West for donating eggs each month. We hope you’ll consider volunteering to help! Julie M will be in touch with our current volunteers in August to inquire about your availability, or you can contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in helping with the Fresh Friday program.
Life Systems Upgrades
Goris Electric has begun the upgrade to our Life Systems (Fire Alarm). There will be work taking place each evening after school into the month of July. Our current system will be kept up and running until the new system is installed and checked. Please call the office if you have any questions about this upgrade.
Scent Free and Nut Safe School
Parents and students, when coming into the school please consider those with allergies and refrain from using perfumes/colognes and avoid sending nuts or nut products to school. Some students have a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and other nuts. An allergic reaction could cause the child’s airway to clamp down and fill with mucous. Ultimately, without immediate medical treatment, death could occur.
Stratford Central – Stratford Northwestern Renovations/Updates – Message from AMDSB
Just a friendly reminder that if you would like to provide input regarding the changes coming to Stratford Central and Stratford Northwestern, there is an opportunity on the Avon Maitland District School Board website, yourschools.ca. There is also a form on the site for anyone who would like to register to join a sub-committee that will provide further input. We understand the disruption for families will be significant for the 2019/2020 school year, but the positive outcome will be integrated programming with enhanced options for students.
