Mid-June 2019 Newsletter
Dear North Easthope Families:
The summer like weather has finally arrived and we are enjoying as much outside time for learning as we can fit into the day. It was wonderful to see so many families at our school Bar B Q earlier this month and our volunteers at the Volunteer Tea last week. Thanks again to everyone for supporting and helping to make NEH PS a wonderful place to learn and grow.
The students have been excited to welcome Janice Danen, the Perth County Dairy Educator as well as Luke McCarroll from the Stratford Tennis Club for workshops and learning this past week. Last week we welcomed Winona Sands and Patsy Day, Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, to our school. We learned about their stories and made Indigenous crafts.
We are looking forward to our school prizes from our Jump Rope for Heart Event. We will have an extra recess, a school walk and someone will be helping me out as Principal for a Day next week. All of the students enjoyed a freezie together at the end of the event. Thanks to the school community for supporting this fundraising for Health Hearts in our community. Thanks to Mlle Miller and our student leaders for organizing this event for us. Individual prizes for students will be sent home this week.
We are also looking forward to another fun trip to the Lions Pool in Stratford for all students on Friday, June 21st. We will have an end of the year assembly on the last day of school in the gym at 9 am to celebrate our year.
A sincere thank you to all students, staff and parents for a great year of learning, setting new goals and celebrating accomplishments. I value the time that I spend with your child(ren) each day and I look forward to welcoming them back in September.
Jo Anne Knechtel
At this time of year, we have staff and students that we need to say good-bye to and wish well. First of all a fond farewell and good luck to all of our Gr 8 students who are moving on to Gr 9 and High School.
We will also be wishing Ms Hinz, Ms Kuttschrutter, Mrs. Mathieson and Ms McEwen farewell. You will always be a North Easthope Eagle and we will miss you.
The final meeting of the School Council took place on Wednesday, June 12th. Thank you to our elected school council for your support of our students and staff throughout the school year – Melissa Hinds, Kim Cook, Tonia Streicher, Tiffany Wurdell, Kristen Dill, Jodie Evans, Jessie Wilhelm and our Community Representative Pat Eidt. Thanks as well to Ms Browning, Mrs. Burkhardt, Mrs. Brace, Ms VanZuilen and Cadence T for representing the staff and students as part of the council. A HUGE thank you for all that you do. Our first meeting in September, which will include elections, will be on Thursday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the library. All parents are welcome to attend.
On Monday, June 24th we will have a Hat Day to celebrate school spirit. Our Gr 7/8 class will be selling jumbo freezies for the cost of $2 to support the Tanzania Seed Project that all students have been learning about this school year. As well, on Thursday, June 27th we will be celebrating Canada Day a bit early. Students are invited to wear red and white from head to toe to celebrate our great country.
Hot Food and Milk
Thanks to our Hot Food volunteers for organizing and delivering hot food through out the year. A reminder that there will be no pizza or milk next week (June 27). Thanks to Mrs. Brace and student volunteers for organizing and delivering milk for students. This is appreciated by everyone.
Thanks to everyone who returned library books. If you still have one out or found one during Spring cleaning, please send it into the school as soon as possible. Thanks.
Congratulations to all of our students on another successful term. Hard work, perseverance and an open mind have allowed for growth and learning by everyone. Report Cards will be sent home with all students on Tuesday, June 25th. Please work with your child to complete the last page, sign and return to school before the end of the year. These forms are filed in your child’s OSR.
Track and Field
Congratulations to all of our Gr 4-8 students who participated in our school, regional and district track meets this term. Thanks to Mlle Miller and Ms Smith for organizing our school event and coaching the teams. All of our student athletes demonstrated great skill, attitude and teamwork. Well done Eagles.
Lost and Found
We still have many items in the Lost and Found. We will put it out one last time next week for students to look through. Drop in and look in case you are missing anything at home. The items left will be donated to a local charity.
New Swing Sets
We are eagerly awaiting the opening of our new swing sets. Thanks again to School Council and the Avon Maitland District School Board for these new items for our playground. Once the inspection is complete and grass planting has happened we will be able to open up the swings. We will have an official opening in the Fall.
School Supplies for September
We have attached some suggestions for school supplies for students that are needed in the Fall. Please review the chart.
