September 2018 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

Welcome to a new year at Romeo Public School! This is a year with some new faces and new adventures! While for many of our families September marks a return to Romeo, for others, a new school often means nerves and excitement.

As our experienced families are aware Mrs. Dixon, Ms. Bowers, Ms. Bennewitz and Ms. Herman, are not with us this year. We are welcoming Mrs. Schenck, Ms. Illman, Ms. Lewis, Ms. Martin and Ms. Parker to Romeo!

Your teachers have been busy taking courses and attending workshops throughout the summer. Once again, Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Corbett have spent the summer making the school glimmer for all of us and we thank them very much for all of their hard work.
It has been wonderful to see our new playground so well used over the summer and now we get to enjoy it through the school year! What an accomplishment that Romeo should be proud of and we will continue to work on being caretakers of our community!

What is coming home today?

Emergency Forms

It is very important for all of these forms to be looked at thoroughly, changes made, and returned to school ASAP. Please check to see if contact people and phone numbers are listed correctly.

Also, complete the sections regarding permission for certain situations.

Freedom of Information Page

This page will tell parents about the Freedom of Information Act within schools.

Romeo Family Handbook

Students in JK/SK, SK/1, and 2/3, will bring home a Romeo Family Handbook. (Students in grades 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 will receive a personal planner with the Handbook printed inside). Please read the information over carefully as it provides important details pertaining to Romeo’s routines and procedures. Please read over the handbook with your child. Then send back the last page of this newsletter, filled in so your child can be entered in a draw for a prize by September 21!

Student Planners

Students in the 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 classes will receive a planner, with the Romeo Family Handbook printed inside. The delivery date will be later than we expected. To ensure effective and ongoing communication between home and school we ask that you please sign the planner each night. This is a great method of finding out what your child is doing at school. It is also a chance for you to see notes or write notes to your child’s teacher. Please reinforce this great organizational tool with your child.

September/October Food Orders

For September/October, a paper copy of the Pizza and Milk order will be coming home. Pita Pit order forms will follow soon. Most families have registered for School Cash and this will be our preferred payment method moving forward. We can help you register if you have not set Schoolcash up yet! At our Meet the Teacher Night we will have people ready to make registering even easier! If you require paper copies, please call Mrs. Kane at 519-271-4487.

Student Safety

With the new school year beginning, we ask for your co-operation in reminding your child to please cross at the crosswalk to ensure safety of everyone.

Before School & After School Supervision

Supervision in the school yard before school begins at 8:35 a.m. It is strongly encouraged that students should not be entering the property prior to this time. As well, after school, students should proceed promptly off the property after dismissal and head home. If students return to the school after dismissal it is with the understanding that is it under parental supervision. The yards are not supervised after 3:20 p.m.

Visitors

All parents, caregivers, friends, relatives, and guests are to come to the office to sign in before going to visit a class or person in the school. This is for safety reasons and if the school needs to be evacuated, we can account for everyone. Thanks for your cooperation with this routine.

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance

Our school board is offering you the opportunity to voluntarily purchase student accident insurance through the Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. (iA Financial Group).

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance provides protection against unexpected costs arising from accidental injuries. The program is especially valuable for families who:

  • do not have medical or dental plans,
  • have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or
  • have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities.

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance has a selection of plans to suit most budgets. Benefits include coverage for:

  • The full school year (September to September), 24 hours a day, while at home and in school;
  • Expenses that are often limited or not covered by private or group insurance plans, or Provincial Health Insurance Plans, such as ambulance, physiotherapy, private tutoring, counselling, and much more;
  • Injury-related dental treatment (including future dental treatment up to age 26);
  • Out-of-province or country emergency medical expenses.

If your address changes during the school year, your Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance plan is transferable from school to school, anywhere in Canada.

Insurance premiums for children are $14.50 or $33.50 per year, depending on the plan selected. A discount is available for families with 3 or more children. Adults age 20 to 64 can also be insured for $32.00 per year.

For more information or to apply online, please visit kidsplus.ca, or speak with a Kids Plus™ Client Service Administrator at 1-800-556-7411.
