February 2019 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

Romeo is so pleased to be one of the schools involved in bringing Barbara Coloroso to Stratford!

Barbara Coloroso will be at the Stratford Rotary Complex on Monday, February 11 from 6:00-8:00pm. Free tickets are available at http://bit.ly/BarbaraColoroso.

Her presentation is titled: The Bully, the Bullied, and the Not-So-Innocent Bystanders: Building Character and Reducing Bullying

It takes much more than slogans, posters, and anti-bullying programs to break the cycle of violence and to create more deeply caring communities. Brave hearted kids willing to step up and step in to stop these attacks can’t do it alone; we all need to pitch in to make a difference. In this session, we will discuss verbal, physical, relational, and cyber bullying violence and its effect on the bully, the bullied, the not-so-innocent bystanders and the entire school community. Participants will receive tips, tools, strategies, and handouts to help enact positive change.

Please join us for this informative and energizing speaker!

School Travel Planning/Active School Travel DatCollection

Thank you to those who have already participated in our School Travel Planning Family Survey. If you need a paper copy, please call Mrs. Kane at the school, to have one sent home. The online link will be open until February 14, 2019.

The results from this survey are being used along with other data we’ve collected to assess the current travel conditions at our school. We’ve collected a lot of helpful information that will guide our committee as they develop a plan to get more children walking and cycling to/from school. We really want more children to benefit from this regular physical activity and some unstructured outdoor time. You may want to benefit, too! Many parents who join their children on the walk to school find it an invigorating start to their own day.

Thank you for all of the responses to the Fun Family Question from last month!

Last month’s question was: If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life what would it be? Some answers included “nothing green”, “pasta”, “cookies”, “pizza” and “I can’t pick just one thing”.
This month’s question is: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

Our monthly Family Fun questions are questions that everyone can participate in and allows everyone to connect, while walking to school, eating dinner or going to a sports event. Don’t forget to enter your child’s answer on the last page of the newsletter for a chance for them to win a Domino’s gift card!

Student Safety

We ask for your co-operation in reminding your child to please cross at the crosswalk to ensure safety of everyone.

Before School & After School Supervision

Supervision in the school yard before school begins at 8:35 a.m. It is strongly encouraged that students should not be entering the property prior to this time. As well, after school, students should proceed promptly off the property after dismissal and head home. If students return to the school after dismissal it is with the understanding that is it under parental supervision. The yards are not supervised after 3:20 p.m.

Visitors

All parents, caregivers, friends, relatives, and guests are to come to the office to sign in before going to visit a class or person in the school. This is for safety reasons and if the school needs to be evacuated, we can account for everyone. Thanks for your cooperation with this routine.

Please share with us your answer to the monthly question: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
