We would like to begin this newsletter by wishing everyone a healthy and happy holiday season. We are really looking forward to our concert on Tuesday, December 11th. There will be a performance at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m.
Also, we would like to say a special thanks to parent council and to Lisa Sheldon for organizing a school wide holiday meal that will take place on Thursday, December 13th. Students will enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with potatoes and vegetables. We are asking for a canned food donation for the United Way.
The character attribute for the month of December is Compassion. Compassion is defined as sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it. Students can show compassion at school by:
- communicating in a warm way (attentive listening)
- be selfless (take your own needs out of the equation)
- practice acts of kindness
Please take the time to rest and recharge over the holidays. We are looking forward to an amazing 2019 at South Perth. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school.

POWER OF WE News
The Power of We would like to thank everyone for participating in Twin Day. We raised approximately $75.00 to go towards our Clean Water for Haiti campaign. Our next fundraiser is the candy gram sales!
United Way Bake Sale
Thanks to the families of the Grade 1/2 and 3/4 classes for making goodies for our Bake Sale. We also want to say thank you to the volunteers and to all the South Perth families for supporting the Bake Sale in such a generous way. We are proud to say that we surpassed our $250 goal with a grand total of $447.30. We will combine this with the Power of We Purple Day and staff donations to contribute from the South Perth community a grand total of $700 for the United Way.
School Council Update
It has been a very busy and successful fall for School Council. Thanks to your support, money raised from this year’s fundraisers have been used to purchase 4 new pop up badminton nets for our school. We hope the students love this new addition and it inspires a few new badminton enthusiasts.
We are once again organizing a school-wide Christmas luncheon on December 13th. There is no charge for the lunch, so we hope students will enjoy the fellowship of community during this special Christmas season while being treated to a traditional turkey dinner prepared by school volunteers and milk donated by the Perth County Dairy Producers.
Wednesday, December 5th is pick up day for poinsettias, Aunt Millie’s Soups, 911 name signs and maple syrup. We will be at the school from 3 – 5 p.m. Please make arrangements to have your items picked up.
We are excited to support a school-wide tubing day on February 19. More information will come home in the new year, but mark your calendars and we hope students will be excited.
Finally, with the arrival of winter’s unpredictable weather, a friendly reminder that our school’s Facebook page is a great source of information and we will try to post bus delays or cancellations as early as possible, but continue to check official sources, such as ourschoolbus.ca for up to date and exact information.
We hope you and your families enjoy some much deserved rest and relaxation over the Christmas holidays. May it be spent with the people and things most cherished to you. Looking forward to continued support and success in the new year.
Our next School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the school library. Hope to see you there.
