At this time, I would like to thank the UTES community for supporting us in so many ways. This month, you were very supportive on the Grade 4’s candy gram fundraising and our Pink Shirt day. I would also like to share that we recently received a message from the Terry Fox Foundation congratulating us on raising $5,899.00 for cancer research, and thanking us for our wonderful generosity. I look forward to what else we can do.
A huge thank you to Mitchell Gymnastics and Live Well for Life, who both donated their time and space for our Electives program. Another example of the generosity, and the partnerships, in the community!
And my sincere apologies for jinxing us! I no sooner said that it would be a rare occasion for UTES to be closed, and we have been closed three days in February! I must say I think that this may be the sign of the times, as our weather patterns appear to be changing.

Teen Esteem and Elements
The Perth District Health Unit is currently recruiting men and women to volunteer with school-based programs to empower and encourage students in Grades 5 & 6. This program will begin at UTES, subject to volunteer availability, in March.
Volunteers will lead a small group of students in fun, interactive games, activities and discussions. Teen Esteem and Elements sessions are held during one lunch break a week for 6 weeks and are facilitated by a Public Health Nurse. Topics include: healthy friendships, screen time, stress and coping.
For more information and to complete our on-line application, visit the Perth District Health Unit , email email@example.com or call 519-271-7600 ext. 305 You can also call the school and let us know that you are interested in our program, which will run Tuesdays for boys and Thursdays for girls, from 10:40 a.m – 11:40 a.m every week for 6 weeks.
Welcome to Siobhan Falconer, who has returned from a parental leave, to teach grade 1 at UTES. She will be replacing Courtney Pickard, who I am sure we will see frequently at UTES as a supply teacher.
New Playground Fundraising Committee
School Council wants you to join a playground committee! We already know that our old playground structure will need replacing within a couple of years, so we would like to get ahead of this and start thinking of fundraising over the next two years for a new structure.
If interested, join us April 9th at 6:30 pm at UTES.
There are several flyers attached to this newsletter, advertising youth oriented events, and several March Break ideas!
Also included are instructions for school messenger. If you want to receive text alerts about events at school, including bus delays and cancellations, sign up if you haven’t already!
