June 2019 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

June is an exceptionally busy time at school as we wrap up this year and plan for next year.

Besides staffing and organizing classes, we will start to place students in classes for next year. As was detailed in the May newsletter, placing students in classes is based on a variety of considerations, such as balancing boys/girls, friendships, abilities, interests
and needs; avoiding splits two years in a row; and staff professional judgment.
If you feel strongly about your child’s placement, feel free to call the school to discuss with me, or send me an email. Do so by June 10th. It is not enough to speak to the classroom teacher. Note that your request will be discussed and considered, but cannot always be granted due to the above considerations. However, whenever possible, we aim to meet reasonable requests.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 519-348-8472, or paula.robinson@ed.amdsb.ca

Sincerely,

Paula Robinson, Principal

Staff Retirements

Congratulations to Patti Webb, who will be retiring at the end of June! Mrs.
Webb began and ended her teaching career at Upper Thames ES! After graduating from Althouse, she spent a year at UTES, and then her journey took her to the Ottawa Carlton Board, and she eventually came back to grade 2 at Upper Thames. We wish her all the best in her retirement, as she spends more time with family and friends.

Dave Cossey, also known as Mr. Popcorn, will also be retiring! Dave has worked in various fields and has been working as a custodian for AMDSB for 14 years. We wish him all the best on his trips in the RV!

Grade 6 Song Hits You Tube!

The grade 6 students worked with Mrs. Nicholson and Dustin Sky Smith from Skyline Productions to write and record a song called “Illuminate” for the Tanner Steffler Foundation. Check it out at youtube for Illuminate – UTES (SHELTER PROJECT 2019). We are very proud of Mrs. Nicholson and our grade 6 students! Well done!
