This morning, shortly before buses would run for the day, we were informed that OPP were in the North Perth Westfield area of Listowel where a suspect had reportedly fled in a stolen vehicle.
A decision was made to delay the start of school until more information could be shared. After discussions with police and the Huron Perth Catholic DSB, a decision was then made to cancel buses as a safety precaution and to close North Perth Westfield.
Eastdale and St. Mary’s schools and he secondary school remained open for students who could safely arrive. These schools were directed to “hold and secure” which means school doors are locked and students are not allowed to leave the building. Westfield was closed and any students in the before school program were safely sent home.
We do apologize for the inconvenience for parents this morning, given the late announcement; however, we did what we could to try to minimize the disruption and to err on the side of caution to protect our students and staff.
We appreciate the support of the OPP, local authorities and parents who helped us to keep your children safe.
